 Grow Me The Money turns one!
|
VECCI and EPA Victoria launched Grow Me The Money to the Victorian business community in April 2007. One year on, we’d like to reflect on some of the key outcomes for the program and touch on the exciting future directions.

Former Treasurer Brumby launched Grow Me The Money with then Environment Minister John Thwaites. Premier Brumby’s leadership of the State Government ensures that sustainability remains high on the agenda for Victoria. Great news for Grow Me The Money businesses!

In the past 12 months Grow Me The Money has:
|
- Had over 420 businesses register with the program;
- Received over 25 Action Plans from businesses;
- Hosted over 8 networking events and 25 information sessions;
- Launched an active business to business online forum;
- Recruited more than 50 industry mentors to the program;
- Recruited 6 new staff; and
- Completed two successful pilot programs in Goulburn Valley and in western region of Melbourne (results below).

The Goulburn Valley pilot worked with 12 Shepparton businesses who have implemented or committed to actions that will:
|
- Invest $75,000 to undertaking resource efficiency actions;
- Save 7,000 kL of water per year with a payback period of less than 2 years;
- Save over 20,000 kWh/year of electricity consumption at a payback of just over 3 years and;
- Cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 1.4 million kg/yr of CO2e.

The Western Metropolitan pilot worked with 16 businesses throughout the region who have implemented or committed to actions that will:

- Invest over $1.3 million to undertaking resource efficiency actions, 50% of this was committed by one company alone!;
- Save 27.7 mega litres of water per year with a average payback period of 17.8 years;
- Save over 1.5 million kWh/year with an average payback of 2.4 years and;
- Cut greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3.1 million kg/year of CO2e.

The past 12 months have been a whirlwind of activity for Grow Me The Money businesses and we are looking forward to the next 12. Grow Me The Money’s second year will focus on increasing the public recognition and profile of sustainable businesses, improving our reporting and results, saving more energy, water and waste and, of course, saving you more money!
